A Portable Temperary Yurt Frame

Therefore, you are thinking why a tarp and not the canvas. Mostly because of the investment into a machine, and then there is the special design technique , which is sewing the water tight seam. This is required for the strength of the cover and the water integrity. I would like to keep the overall cost of the yurt frame, and covering package down. The cost of getting started making the covers, includes the cost of the machine, then the material, depending on weather it is made with a 10 oz light gage canvas, or a 14oz heaver more resistant gauge. I have researched into having a prototype cover made up, as I have the design and pattern, this wound up with unforeseen cost as well, which cannot be accepted. The research and development has many ideas and avenues to choose from, to make building these from as much recycled recourses as possible using local, reused, recycled materials. Networks such as the local habitat for humanity’s, or the time bank pdx., and the second’s yards. When the time allows I am confident that the right material for the coverings will come, maybe a material such as hemp, which could be used for both the outer cover and an inner insulating layer for more permanent applications. The versatility and durability of using the tarps, makes them a practical way to enjoy a yurt experience now. In addition, I found loosing the knowledge of doing it myself, added to the overall cost of as well. This is what makes the frame cost less, saving your money and getting you what you need

As I have said I have done research for the materials, and had not gotten daring enough t o become a sail maker. Although I realize that, and know, that it would be the best thing possible in the end for the environment and us, to use a environmental material. However, I have some reservations on cotton, its heavier one, up keeping it, drying, storing and the chemicals used to make it waterproof. The fact is that because of the durability and versatility, the tarps work. Being able to use the yurt was most important, and the tarps work great for the best of 3 seasons of camping that I do. The first set of tarps that I bought was in 2006, they are still in use today, and they will last another six to eight years, or more.

There are other companies, which offer coverings for a yurt, 14 ft, at about a cost of $1100, and add in the shipping.
